Treatment Progress and Finished Results
After the brackets are bonded and wires are given, the patient is called after every 6-8 weeks for progress evaluation / change of wires to continue the treatment.
At each appointment we will carefully evaluate the change in the teeth position, direction of teeth movement, functional jaw position etc .
Orthodontic wires are changed to next dimension / alloy to continue the treatment progress.
Sometimes fixed or removable elastics are prescribed as per the teeth movement required. Orthodontic accessory appliances may be added at correct time to reinforce treatment progress.
Mid treatment x ray records may be taken to analyze root positions and parallelism. Sometimes some bracket positions are changed to correct initial errors or to add overcorrections.
Careful progress checkups, addition / removal of orthodontic forces etc are done till the final results are achieved. Once we are clinically satisfied with the teeth position, x rays are taken to confirm the same. Once the teeth are in the final position of esthetics and stability , fixed retainers are bonded on inner surface of front teeth and patient is scheduled for appliance debonding.
Orthodontic Appliance Debonding and Retainers
At debonding appointment, the fixed orthodontic braces are removed carefully with special instrument. The glue marks on teeth enamel are also removed carefully without damaging the enamel with special composite removing burs. The teeth are professionally cleaned and polished to their natural form and appearance. Impressions are made for post treatment records and for fabricating removable retainer.
Retainer is required to maintain the corrected position of teeth till other hard and soft tissues around them remodel to prevent relapse.
Post treatment x rays and photographic records are also taken.
Removable retainer, which is usually a transparent plastic retainer is given in one or two days. The patient is required to wear the retainer as per the instructions till specified duration to maintain the treatment results .
